Working with Latemar Moon spruce is a true privilege.
This exceptional spruce comes from the ancient forests of the Latemar mountains in the Dolomites — a source revered by master luthiers throughout history. It is an honor to continue this tradition, selecting trees from these forests where Antonio Stradivari once sought the finest timber, drawn by its unmatched tonal qualities for his violins, and carrying forward the same dedication in finding the perfect tonewoods for my guitars.
In the summer months, I embark on a search through these forests, seeking the finest trees. I look for those that have reached the right age, those that grow in the ideal location, often on slightly flatter terrain, where they develop the perfect tonal qualities. This deep connection with the forest allows me to carefully select trees that will embody the soul of my instruments.
Cutting down one of these majestic and ancient trees, full of history and character, is always an emotional and profound undertaking. The weight of the decision is never taken lightly, as each tree has a voice that carries with it the essence of the forest.
The wood is then harvested in winter, during the waning moon phase, precisely three days before the new moon. The exact timing reflects a blend of historic widsom and modern scientific research, both confirming that there is a particular moon phase which yields wood with superior stability and tonal qualities.
After the harvest, the wood undergoes a natural, air-drying process lasting several years. Only once perfectly seasoned and stable it find its place in my instruments.
Latemar Moon spruce is not just timber to me — it is the essence of my craftsmanship, embodying nature, heritage, and meticulous care. It shapes the sound and character of every guitar I create, giving each one its distinctive voice and soul.
My goal is to craft guitars that not only inspire musicians but also accompany them – instruments that touch their soul and bring joy for a lifetime.
